Popular Mexican food stall has new owner and extends stay at Five Valleys shopping centre

12 December 2023

A popular Mexican food stall that has proven to be a hit with shoppers at Five Valleys will be extending its stay at the shopping centre under new ownership.

The Latin-influenced menu at La Cantina has gone down a storm with visitors to the Stroud-based centre ever since it opened in December 2020.

And fans of the vendors’ burritos, nachos, tacos and quesadillas have reason to celebrate as the business has just extended its lease with the shopping centre.

In addition, the business has just been taken over with Emilio Sanchis Granell handing over the reins of the business to friend Neil Borras and his partner Mabel Escobar.

And foodie fans are in good hands as the couple have spent years working in restaurants – including in a Mexican restaurant.

After gaining experience working in restaurants in Asturias in northern Spain, Andorra and Catalonia – where the couple met – they decided to embark on a new adventure and took over the business in Stroud, a town they fell in love with at first sight.

They are hoping to introduce some new flavours to the menu so the good people of Stroud can enjoy an authentic taste of Mexico.

This includes chilli con carne, a vegan option and tres leches cake – a classic Mexican treat, sometimes called milk cake – that gets its name from three different types of milk used.

Neil said: “We love Mexican gastronomy and with our experience, we are very happy to continue offering the best culinary experience to our loyal customers.

“We will be looking to introduce some new items to the menu and we want to focus on Mexican street food that is so popular around the world.”

Five Valleys Centre Manager, Jack Simpson, said: “La Cantina has been a popular addition to our food market and we’re thrilled to see the business move forward with some exciting additions to the menu under the new owners.

“We wish Neil and Mabel all the best with their new venture.”

La Cantina will continue to be open seven days a week from 10.30am to 5pm.

The market has one remaining unit, all enquiries should be directed to Olly Jansen at olly.jansen@dransfield.co.uk.

You can find La Cantina inside the Five Valleys indoor market. Visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LaCantinaFiveValleys/
