new venture is a piece of cake for talented baker Faye

7 October 2024

Home baker Faye Merrix-Jones has launched her brand-new business the Kitchen Witch Cakery at Stroud’s Five Valleys shopping centre at the weekend.

Faye was joined by her family for a special opening event on Saturday October 5th in the new premises at Five Valleys Market which have been transformed into a stunning new kitchen and café, with a seating area for customers.

It’s been a long-held ambition for former TV researcher Faye to have her own business selling her delicious home baked “cakes with attitude.”

The newly launched cakery sells a delicious range of home baked cake slices and cupcakes as well as speciality teas from Nuditea – served of course in traditional vintage china cups. Customers can also order special occasion cakes and bespoke cupcakes.

Faye said: “My children are at an age now that it feels like the right time to launch my business. We spend a lot of time as a family at Five Valleys and I love the fact that it supports independent businesses – so it really does feel like the right place for me to launch the Kitchen Witch Cakery.

“My family has really supported me in making this come to fruition and I couldn’t have done it without them.  I wanted the unit to look really colourful and a little bit edgy and I think we have achieved that.”

The Kitchen Witch Cakery has a stunning and contemporary hot pink and black design and can be found next door to Alfonso’s Gelateria and close to Bon Macaron at the busy market area. The new Ducklings Toy shop is also due to open later this month in this part of the centre.

Faye’s ambition is to find the best local ingredients for her bakes, sourcing sustainable and regenerative ingredients from Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds wherever possible.

Faye started baking cakes for family and friends before taking the step to turning her hobby into a new business venture and is now looking forward to sharing her bakes with a wider audience.  She has also launched a new website alongside her new Five Valleys cakery and café which can be found at: www.kitchenwitchcakery.co.uk.

Centre Manager at Five Valleys Erica Malpass, said: “It has been fantastic to see the transformation of Faye’s unit taking place over the last few weeks and it looks amazing. We are really pleased that Faye has chosen Five Valleys to launch the Kitchen Witch Cakery – another great addition to our market line up here in Stroud.”

The Kitchen Witch Cakery joins a great line up of traders at the Five Valleys Market including Armadeli, The Artisan Baker, Knights Artisan Butchers and Seafood as well as a great range of food to go street food including Los Cubanos which has also launched this weekend.

The market is part of a major transformation and investment at Five Valleys which was started in 2020 by the town centre regeneration company Dransfield Properties.

Retailers at the centre include Sandersons Boutique Department Store, JoJo Maman Bebe, Starbucks, Sports Direct and Peacocks. Five Valleys is also home to a modern new medical centre and Stroud Library.
